2015. Launch. GearVR. LEAP and more.

It’s been a while since we last updated. We’ve had many emails and comments from people all over the world asking for updates and specifically a DK2 demo! Thanks you for your continued interest and most of all patience.

We’re still working hard. We haven’t disappeared. March 2015 is our milestone release date. We will be able to reveal the brand and launch our on-line store by this time. Hopefully with some free test demo’s as well.

DK2 demo!

Our old Lucid Dreams DK1 demo was never meant to be run on the DK2, so we don’t officially have a demo for people to use yet. There are some clones out there but we don’t officially support them. We will release something in the next week or so. Thanks for your patience.

Store and payments

We recently applied to Epoch which was a very long review process but we passed and we are now implementing our own payment module to work with Epoch to take credit card payments worldwide. This will allow customers from the EU and US to pay with PayPal. We also have CCBill integrated already as our main payment source, as well as PaySafeCard and Bitcoin. This all takes time to implement but we are close.

Models!

Last week we finally got to work with TillieModel a fantastic model from the UK. We also have another model called Holly booked in early March.

vr-tillie-03

We need some brunettes! If you have any favourite models that you would like to see scanned and realized in VR feel free to send us your suggestions.

For this to work:

1) need to be based in the EU, ideally the UK
2) active in the modelling industry
3) easy to contact details or an agent.

Send us your suggestions. In the future (with your help) we hope to scale up to be able to book models from all over the world and maybe even work with partners like Playboy or Hegre-Art but for the moment we will start small.

Here’s an example of one of the 100’s of scans we took of Tillie. RAW scan in Agisoft Photoscan before any processing, from our use of a 150x DSLR scanning system.

GearVR

Our GearVR arrived in December and we finally got some Note4’s to test with last week. Early testing was VERY easy! The GearVR is a dream. We can bypass the Oculus or Google Play store quite simply. We got our first scan into the GearVR the day the Note4 arrived. We have access to some of the most sophisticated and streamlined VR tools in the industry, from a developer who had early access in mid 2014. We hope to be able to deliver streamlined and easy to use .apk products specifically for the GearVR for launch in March. The scans will need to be optimized and will use lower resolution textures without shading but they still hold up!

Our first test scan in the GearVR

What to expect

We plan to publish 3 types of products:

product-type-avr product-type-bvr product-type-mvr

AVR – DK2. Skin shading, 5 scan packs, sophisticated lighting and shadowing, breathing animations. LEAP integration, skin physics, skin deformation and manipulation (suitable for high end PC’s)

BVR – DK2. Basic shading, 10 scan packs (suitable for low end PC’s)

MVR – GearVR. Basic shading, 5 scan packs (suitable for Note4)

We might also be supporting mono (single camera) products for various devices but this needs to be investigated further.

Way of the future

Just wait until you see what we’re doing with LEAP hand integration, physics and skin manipulation. Much fun to be had..

Hopefully we can convince OculusVR to demo some of our content at GDC   …whaddya reckon?

More soon.
V

PS. We really appreciate any social sharing, if you want to share to the mighty Reddit please share to /r/oculusnsfw/ rather than /r/oculus/ ..what with us being NSFW and all!

Thanks for the update! The features planned for the AVR product are more than I expected and I can’t wait! I will be buying your AVR product as soon as it’s available for purchase. I have a powerful PC (GTX780Ti, 5820K@4.5, DK2), so I’m all set. TillieModel looks good, but I’m hoping that the model (I don’t know her name) you used in your Pleasure Sandbox demo (https://www.veiviev.com/pleasure-sandbox/) will be in AVR when you launch?

    Hello,
When can you tell us how much the packs are going to cost? Have you thought of subscriptions for those who might want all the packs available?

    • veiviev

Packs will vary between $7-$15 (£5-£10) We wont have subscriptions until further down the line once the store is more mature and we have more content. Pricing will eventually come down.

Holy sh**. Been waiting a long time. Glad you guys are just about ready to release something! I have a pretty decent quad core extreme i7 PC with a GTX 970 and 6 gigs of RAM. I assume that will be enough horse power to handle the AVR stuff. (Hope so at least)

HEGRE-ART… Never heard of them before but decided to check them out. Holy crap, they have some super hot models there. If you succeeded in getting these girls I would have to just give you direct wire access to my bank account and let you take my money as you see fit. 😉

    This is truly exciting!

I do see that 3d scanning imposes limitations on hair styles, often robbing beautiful models of a very important component of their sexiness. Do you expect to integrate something like nvidia hairworks in the future, so that hair can be recreated digitally? (I know that nvidia is working on integrating hairworks with UE4 right now, if you’re still using it.)

    • veiviev
      February 15, 2015 at 10:20 am · Reply

Hair is pretty trivial in the long term. We’ve already solved hair modelling and rendering, the problem is GPU power, especially combined with environment rendering as well. Once The next GPU iteration is released as well as hopefully VR SLI, most of these issues will be solved. We have to scan the model with their hair back or up so we can see their neck, head shape and ears. Hair can be digitally added after. So the method is future proofed.

Due to the new Oculus SDK the only way to view in single camera mode would be to uninstall any Oculus drivers, so yes it’s possible but not recommended as they are designed for VR.

Just Oculus drivers. I would say wait, the content doesn’t look as good/real in single camera mode. In VR, stereo they much better and more believable.

I don’t suppose there’s any chance any of this will work with the DK1? I’ve held out this long without grabbing the DK2 and at this point I don’t feel like it’s a good investment. Due to sim sickness my DK1 has seen very very little use so I’m completely out of the loop when it comes to drivers/compatibility/etc between the two platforms.

Demos are key to keeping people’s interest in such a new market and before you know it other products arrive and move people’s focus. Keep up the great work but please do be mindful of the aforementioned. Nice to see the UK producing such home grown potential. When the new demo is released maximum possible exposure (no pun intended) is vip. 🙂

Had we known how complex development would be, how many SDK changes there would be from Oculus and how hard VR is in general. We may not have even started down this road. Keeping a float, paying bills (self funded) with no revenue streams, whilst developing with freelancers across borders and time zones it a lot harder than you might imagine 🙂

It’s very clear that BobVR here is very passionate about your product, veiviev, but I’m sure it’s annoying to see comments like this constantly.

BobVR, I wish you wouldn’t be so rude, if you want this technology right now – go create it yourself – right this second – it’s all possible. Go buy a hundred DSLR cameras, get yourself a well lit studio space, and start hiring girls that will agree to get naked in front of you, and then act professionally in front of them without getting a hard-on, and then take that data collected and hire an expert with Unity or Unreal, figure out all of the stuff within it, and then start using your own content that you probably spent a good $100k or so.

OR, you can wait patiently like literally every other person in here, and spend $7-$15 or so per pack. It’s amazing how being patient can save so much money! 🙂

NOW, to poke veiviev a little bit…

Quit, Saying, Anything, Related, To, Dates.

Else you will continue to get these BobVR types showing up feeling entitled. I think it’s best to keep showing off what is going on behind the scenes every so often, but unless you can launch the same day you are talking about it, don’t even talk about it. It’s safer – put the power back into your hands, so that your words will be true whenever the time comes to launch. “We are launching next week” will one day literally mean “We are launching next week.” 🙂

I can’t wait to purchase packs and whatever else you offer. I also have some great ideas, possibly some collaborations. Maybe we can get in touch sometime, who knows.

      Good luck!

Thanks for your comments and I agree, the problem is we have dates and goals in mind, then new unforeseen issues crop up. I can understand now why so many developers delay, bugs can be nasty. VR is also a new field. 75fps and now 90fps as a target at over 2k output!! It’s INCREDIBLY difficult to develop for 🙂

        • Daemon
          March 3, 2015 at 10:42 pm · Reply

Oh I know how difficult it can be. I develop 3D Products which are coded/scripted to do this and that for a company I own. It’s very similar to what you are doing except family friendly. 🙂

Sometimes I run into a problem and feel like “Welp, shows over folks!” in my head, but after hours of researching and further testing I find a way to pass by the “ROAD CLOSED” signs and succeed.

People don’t realize that when you are coding and such, especially in a new frontier, it’s difficult, and I’m sure there have been many times it has felt like the end of the road for you until you discovered a way to handle this or that. It’s just how it is. One moment you think “All we need to do is this and we’re golden”, and as you start doing “this”, 10 other issues show up preventing “this” from happening. Long story short? It gets problematic and your deadlines don’t get met. Back to the drawing board.

I’m also going to guess you yourself are fairly new to business, you probably don’t have a PR guy and are wearing many hats. Over time all of these things will fall into place.

It’s a balance, but I’d definitely stay away from anything related to dates. But I warn you, it’s only a matter of time that people will hate the word “soon” or other political terms.

(BTW I’m just ranting because everyone else seems to be doing just that, so why not join in?)

Again I wish you the best of luck! 🙂

Big fan of your guys’ and I just wanna say keeping going! You guys are pushing boundaries not only for adult content, but character creation in realtime applications across the board. What you guys are doing is pioneering something new and valuable. Most of us understand that what you’re doing is new and that every step you take into this is essentially a step in the dark and many wrong steps must be taken before the right one is found. I don’t know how people get to feeling so entitled to your guys’ product, but quite frankly reading it in the comments sections on your site irritates me. Grown adults acting like whiny, bratty children.

      Hey Mike,

Not meaning to sound like a “bratty child” here, but, I think reading the larger message behind all of the complaints is what is an important take away for Veiviev. That message seems to be that communication from Veiviev is not ideal. Whether their SDK changes, pipeline process, progress in the dark, keeps them from launching isn’t the real issue. It’s that they don’t communicate much to begin with, and when they do, they communicate timelines that aren’t realistic because of X,Y,Z that I mentioned above. Then their followers are disappointed.

There’s a lot of hype around their product. Their demo experience on DK1 was one of the most compelling out there. Excitement = more potential for dissappointment. Many companies out there, even small indie ones who look for funding, use tools like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to communicate and keep their followers (and potential customers) feeling looped in and adding to the excitement even when things go wrong. Veiviev has their own website, but it still seems very hard for them to update it more than once a quarter. They are definitely quick to respond to comments (here we are at almost 90 on this post, and probably 33 of them are from Veiviev?). But I think to a lot of followers it seems pretty incomplete.

Still you’re right that entitlement is not a valid or mature response. I think meeting common expectations from most developers would go a long way for them though. That’s all I’m sayin’.

Have you ever developed before? If you have a DK2 or had a DK1 I would assume so. So you must realize how difficult developing for VR is. We’re doing our best to communicate our progress. We actually post quite a lot of updates and respond on Reddit as well. Thanks for your patience.

Of course. I totally understand how difficult it is. I don’t think anyone has a problem with HOW long it takes you or the things that you run into as issues. No one has ANY expectations except the ones that YOU put forth. This is VR, it is new, it is difficult. What I’m trying to get across is that there is still a lesson to be learned from the people who are complaining, which is that perhaps there’s a DIFFERENT process for communication with your audience. Obviously you’re doing your best, no one questions that. At all. But instead of a huge lengthy update to the community once every month or every few months, post a little piece of a screenshot and a couple of words of how the process is coming along. “Hey this week we are doing this, this thing went really wrong for us and it is going to hold up our release timeline for another 3 weeks.” {enter screenshot} – END. And of course you don’t post EVERYTHING, you’re trying to build a competitive product. BUT posting in a bite size manner builds a habit of people coming to check in on your progress, expectations that YOUR team has laid out are addressed formally, whether they are met or not, and then you have addressed a multitude of people quickly and efficiently rather than responding to everyone’s comments on Reddit/On this message board, which I guarantee you will become an impossible task as you continue to grow a fan base!

You guys are doing an awesome job. I’m just a fan who wants to help your marketing process, because down the road it’s going to prove just as important to back up the awesome content with proper ways to address your audience as it is to have the awesome product you already have on your hands.

          Sincerely,

          DingDong

Very constructive thanks. I will take that on board. I will see if I can make more regular posts.

Developing for VR isn’t hard….what is hard is the having the visuals you guys are going to have here and keeping as high a frame rate as possible all in double the resolution….optimization is quite hard in the end.

as for the bugs….thats just the way development is…it is the thing i hate to work on the most but is a necessary evil 🙂

I would say their updates are regular enough as it is. Most other developers aren’t constantly handing out updates on their products aside from trade shows or when they’re approaching their launch date to build hype. The good ones say that their stuff will be done when it’s done and put their heads down and work and these are teams of hundreds of people with dedicated hires to act as a liaison to the public. Veiviev sounds like it’s a few dudes working on a passion project and instead of hearing complaints from us about not getting enough information they should be hearing encouragement. If you’re anxious to get your hands on their product or information on it more frequently that’s your problem, it’s not their obligation to assuage your impatience.

Yes patience is required, yes better communication is required…my only recommendation would be for Veiviev to seek a community manager with some PR skills, its great that we get responses to nearly all comments, but I think current postings are from someone to close to the development and things become to personal, you risk offending your consumers (even if they are been whiny brats). /2cents. Can’t wait for product release, congrats on getting this far self funded.

Again, good points thank you. If I could afford a community manager with good copyright skills I would certainly pay for it. Maybe if we get good support (on launch) and we can scale up, we could afford it. We’re a very small team at the moment, working across continents.

Where is the demo? Where is it?? I want it now!!
Just kidding. I’m actually here to give you some encouragement, not pressure. The quality of your products so far has made everyone anxious about a final release, then people get a little carried away, then they get rude, as if you’re obliged to release something immediately. Of course we know you’re not. You’re the avant-garde of an avant-garde technology and everybody is thankful that you went down this road, this uncharted road, full of challenges.
Your public is like a child pestering his parents about the promised Christmas gift: we may be annoying, but we love you and couldn’t live without you.
    Good luck!

    Veiviev team,

Please realize that for every impatient, entitled, unappreciative whiner giving you a hard time there are 99 others who live in the real world and realize that what you’re doing is very difficult and time consuming.

Thanks for your hard work. Community manager…please. LOL

Thanks 🙂 I think people are just very passionate which is a very encouraging thing, with both positive and negative feedback. People care. So I’m really hoping the early products are received well. They will be basic to start with but we need all the support we can get to improve and flourish to scale up.

I can sympathize with the rude people here but I would never take the time to be rude about it! Just impatiently waiting 🙂

Is there any update in terms of a new ETA on a demo?

    Keep up the great work!

Yes, amazing. Combined with motion scanning it’s the future over traditional motion capture.

She has done several nude shoots, all tasteful and artistic. As for doing more erotic poses i wouldn’t know, but as a good friend of mine likes to say “if you dont ask, you wont get”. Even if its not erotic I would still love to have her as part of a collection so to speak, like one off models/VIP’s. Maybe offer these types of special (non erotic/XXX) scans as DLC content i would be happy with that.
